Roman Simonov

Managing Director and head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) sector investments at Siguler Guff

Mr. Simonov is a successful technology investor with an extensive track record of international deals.

Prior to joining Siguler Guff in 2010, Mr. Simonov was a Managing Director at Delta Private Equity Partners. Previously Mr. Simonov worked at Intel Capital, the world’s largest corporate venture capital program, sponsored by the Intel Corporation. During his ten year career at Intel, Mr. Simonov worked at the Santa Clara headquarters, and held several financial and strategic business development positions. In 2003, Mr. Simonov brought Intel Capital from Silicon Valley to Russia when he helped launch its Moscow office.

Mr. Simonov has been involved in several dozen transactions, the largest of which was a $250 million pre-IPO investment in Infineon (a spin-out of Siemens) while at Intel Capital. Additionally, he sourced and completed the acquisition of the Elbrus/UniPro Group of companies. His other notable investments include Synacor (NASDAQ: SYNC), Crossbow Technology (acquired by Moog, NYSE:MOOG), Primavera Systems (acquired by Oracle, NYSE: ORCL), Angstrom Systems (acquired by Applied Materials, NASDAQ: AMAT) and Slice (acquired by Rakuten, PNK: RKUNF). He also received the Intel Achievement Award for his involvement in an $80 million investment in Nikon Corporation.

Mr. Simonov now heads TMT direct investments at Siguler Guff. Mr. Simonov also represents the firm on the boards of a number of portfolio companies, including Parallels, KupiVIP, RetailNext and Banki.ru.

Headquartered in New York, Siguler Guff is a multi-strategy alternative investment firm with over $10 billion of assets under management. Founded in 1991 within PaineWebber, Siguler Guff became independent in 1995. Notable investments in the TMT space include: Alibaba, the operator of a number of leading internet assets in China; Blue Interactive Group, a Brazilian triple play telecommunications company; EPAM Systems, a global provider of software engineering services which is listed on the NYSE: EPAM; GlobalLogic, a full-lifecycle product development services leader; Parallels, a worldwide leader in virtualization and automation software for cloud services; Viagogo, a leading European online ticket marketplace; RethinkDB, a developer of an open source database for the realtime web; NGINX, a developer of an open source high performance HTTP server; Mirantis, a leading pure-play OpenStack software company; and RetailNext, the worldwide market leader for in-store retail analytics. The firm has also invested in two large data centers, Stack Group and DataSpace.
